Poetic Comeback

Image
After many months of the pandemic work, I was able to catch a bit of a rest and sink myself into the task of writing poems.  I appreciate each and every feedback that I receive in regards to my poetry. My style and repetitive themes are not to everyone's liking , but I enjoy the ability and a chance of noting down my thoughts in this way. Using the available moment I have decided to share my poems with a wider public, therefore I have submitted three of my poems to the newest isse of ArtAscent magazine. ArtAscent website ArtAscent is an opportunity for indie writers and artists to show their works to a vast number of readers. A submission to this popular magazine is considered as a milestone for the upcoming artists and a way of reaching higher level of feedback for those who are established in the field.  Every two moths you have a chance at being published in the magazine via a themed call. Each theme is different and it depends on you, how you will respond to it.   I enjoy work

Eggcellent Postcard

Image
During this Easter time, so different to the one two years ago, I decided to create some postcards inspired by my Polish background.   I have mentioned it in the previous post (has it really been so long?) and some of the designs I have used then, found its way into these postcards.  Polish Easter, is a very eggcentric (you get it?)  celebration, that's why the egg became the hero of the design. I enjoyed making these two and more. The designs were later on printed, using https://www.moo.com/uk/postcards A straight forward service, that deliveres great quality products for reasonable price. I was able to sent the postacrds to my family and friends, both in Poland and the rest of UK.

A year in progress

Image
Wow, it's almost hard to believe that it's been over a year since my last post. A lot has changed. I have a job and the working hours make it difficult for me to motivate myself. With the pandemic it all adds up. I'm actually on my last day of isolation following a positive COVID-19 test, it's almost cleared out, I only have a bad cough left, however it causes headaches. Back to illustration, I haen't stopped drawing and creating, but it has certainly decreased in productivity.  I am currently trying to get back up to it and have started a project that links to my national roots. Being of a Polish background, I have decided to go back to the folk lore and folk art of my country. It centres on traditional embroidery designs and methods. The main element of these re flowers: tulips, roses, poppies, daisies etc. I aim to create at least ten embroidery design, that will be later on completed as an actual embroidery. I will pop in, in a few days, with an update of the p

Lancaster

Image
Recently, I have taken a trip to Lancaster. I have been greatly interested in the Roman Baths remains that are located there. Unfortunately, my trip was rather disappointing. Although, I enjoyed the Maritime museum and the Lancaster Castle tour, the one thing that I was anticipating, turned out to be no more than a poorly secured and directed to, pile of stones. The rain on that day didn't help. Here are a few selected photographs from the day out.

Doodling

Image
It's interesting how much of my time I spend doodling. I could be answering the phone, watching a movie, reading a magazine or just getting bored. My right hand will automatically start drawing circles, squares, flowers etc. Apparently a large percentage of British population doodles while being on a phone. Where does it come from? I'll have to find out. Here's a little doodle that changed into a Shakespeare portrait, while I was reading London Book Review magazine.

Maudie Mural

Image
source For a long while I was thinking about creating a mural for a door in my house. Designing a mural is an exciting and yet a stressful task, as you want to fit so many objects and colours onto a limited canvas. My canvas was locked in 198 cm x 76 cm. I wanted to have something of a sea in the design. Catching myself watching 'Maudie' , a movie about Canadian folk artist, Maud Lewis, I took inspiration from the simple colour palette and layout.   My designs    All three of the designs had their appeals. I enjoyed #1 for the boat and great blue space planned in the center, yet #3 caught me with the sway of the lines of its lands. However, it was #2 that I thought to bring a balanced spread of scenery. I decided to stay with the minimal colour palette of primary and secondary hues and shades, particularly enjoying the spots of white throughout.     Finished mu

Portfolio review - Chris Madden

Image
Last month I have been able to attend the creative event celebrating the Art School of Stockport College. You can read more about this night right here 🔼.  At the end of the evening, we had the opportunity to take part in portfolio reviews meetings.  I had the chance to talk about my work with Chris Madden 🔼 , a Salford-based illustrator. Our talk started with a few questions that I wanted to ask him in regards to being a full-time illustrator but at the same time working from home while taking care of a family. Majority of freelancers work from home studios, where a family is a constant presence. Here are a few points from the first part of the review: - having an agent allows for more practical work time i.e. less admin work, less promo work and no need to find clients on their own; - make sure that you are showing yourself to others, email magazine directors, publishers and art galleries; - create a consistent portfolio, get multiple pdf. portfolios, each for a
